What makes a business great
List a few businesses that you REALLY like and think are great companies. Then list the attributes and characteristics that make you feel that way. For example, if you listed Apple, what do you like about the company? What does Apple do that appeals to you?
To be a great business you have to do at least two things. First you have to make enough sales to generate enough revenue to stay in business. Second, you have to do everything in your business – from answering the phone to delivering the product – really well. The things that you don’t do well will not only bother you but will come back to haunt you because they will be noticed by your employees, customers and vendors.
Even great companies that do everything well make mistakes. However, those companies don’t typically make the same mistakes over and over again because they figure out how to fix the problem and fix it quickly. Lots of businesses can identify problems, but only those who are truly dedicated take the steps to find the solutions that will assure it doesn’t happen again. Dealing with problems is an ongoing part of being in business, so being able to solve problems, quickly and effectively will go a long way in determining how successful your business will be.
