How to Market Your Business
Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the best ways to market a small business. However, most business owners shy away from spending money on marketing. You don’t have to spend a fortune, but there are a few things you should do if you want to see results. The most important thing to remember is that marketing is all about telling your story. But before you can tell that story, you need some basic things in place. So let’s start with the most basic item – a business card. Make sure your business card reflects who you are and what you do. Today, most businesses need a website that explains what they sell and how a customer can reach them. I also recommend a handout – brochure or postcard – that you can give to people you meet.
In order to tell your story, you have to have something meaningful to say and some way of getting that information out. For the people that know about you, I suggest you keep them updated with a newsletter. I view a newsletter as a way to promote your business.
For the people who don’t know you, writing a blog about your area of expertise is a great way to draw people to your product or service. The best blogs give readers information they can use in their own businesses and establish the writer as knowledgeable in a particular area.
Many businesses can accomplish most of their marketing needs by using these tools. There is certainly an investment in time and the need for discipline, but the actual cost is pretty minimal.
