Be Ready to Deliver Your Elevator Speech

Be Ready to Deliver Your Elevator Speech

If you were riding with strangers in an elevator and they asked you to tell them about your product or service, how would you explain it in 30 seconds? Interaction with potential customers and trading partners can be unexpected and quick. So it’s important to convey who you are and what you do quickly. And they need to understand what you do in a very short period of time, so keep it simple and only hit the critical points.

Your elevator speech is all about creating interest in your product or service. Interest is usually displayed by facial expressions or body language or asking for your business card. Look for signals that they are eager to hear more. Once you have honed your elevator speech, you will feel comfortable using it over and over again.

There will be situations where you will have time to expand on your product or service, so always be ready for that opportunity. Most of us are pretty good about telling others what we do once we get going and there is an expression of interest. The elevator speech is the mechanism that gets that process started.
